Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to wish all of our readers a Safe, Happy, and Healthy Thanksgiving!  Thanksgiving is often the best holiday because you don't have to deal with the stress of gifts but enjoy food, family, and football.  How's that for a trifecta?!

I am grateful for your readership and support, even Kathleen is slowly coming around.  :-)

SteveAndTheTank.com Turns Two Years Old
Today marks the second birthday for SteveAndTheTank.com.  Yes, the concept began Memorial Day 2006 when Steve and I interviewed Linda's Mom.  Of course, this was off-the-cuff but it was our first pilot show.  We then finalized the SATT name during the Team InfoSys departmental outing at the Brooklyn Cyclones game on July 29.  I then registered the domain name a few days later and Steve posted an introduction to the world two years ago today.

It has been fun and I want to thank everyone for their support especially Steve for co-creating, believing in, and maintaining the website.  Mega thanks to Norman for hosting the website after Steve sold his business.  Who thought we would have thought we would have covered everything from baseball and football to jello wrestling and pillow fighting or lasted as long?  I have met childhood heroes like Gary Carter and Ozzie Smith.

Mucho mega thanks also go out to Linda, her Mom, Editor in Chief and PermaGuest Outlaw Jack, Dana "The Queen of Jello Wrestling" Sterling, Brian Van, Colin the Karaoke King, Melanie, Captain Zorikh, The Doom Maidens, JH, PG, Rod, Medford Bob, Score's Mike, White Fedora Mike, LI Mike, "Johnny Versace", Super Twin Gil, Maria, Director Steve, Buffalo Steve, Vermont Bill, Brooklyn Brant, MTA Ray, and all the other people who have made SteveAndTheTank.com a success.  Last but not least, Steve's girlfriend Kathleen deserves special recognition because she is starting to take us semi-seriously, especially during the podcasts.  "Don't Stop Believin'" Kathleen!  <img alt=" src="http://www.steveandthetank.com/smilies/happy.gif">

James Carville and Curtis Sliwa -- Baseball Integrity Campaign Update
I decided to throw my hat into the ring because I was appalled by the lack of baseball integrity from the so-called leading presidential candidates.  For instance, Senator Clinton is not a real Yankee fan; she grew up a Cubs fan.  Mayor Guiliani supported the Red Sox during last year's World Series.  Judas is not even an appropriate description.  Speaking of Red Sox, Mayor Bloomberg is from Boston and is a Red Sox fan.

Thanks to your support, Mayor Guiliani and Senator Clinton are no longer in the race.  Mayor Bloomberg decided not to run.  I look forward to campaigning against fellow real baseball fans like Senator McCain (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Senator Obama (Chicago White Sox).

I have an advantage over both candidates because I can bridge the partisan divide like no one else.  For instance, I recently met with former Bill Clinton advisor James "The Ragin' Cajun" Carville

and conservative talk show host and Guardian Angel Curtis Silwa in Midtown Manhattan.

I'm not perfect.  However, unlike other politicians, I have not cheated on my wife nor have a second family.  I know the issues and will bring baseball integrity back to the White House.  The fall debates will be filled with baseball references, World Series games, and good old fashioned American fun.  When the phone rings at 3 a.m., I'll answer it because I'll probably be at the ball park as I was at All Star Game or watching baseball highlights.  :-)

Vote SteveAndTheTank.com.  I thank you for your support.

Happy Birthday Steve!

Today marks Steve's birthday and I think he is celebrating it in Egypt.

For my birthday last year, Steve offered to shave my head like David Wright.  I won't do that to Steve.  However, if he wants to contribute hair from his next haircut to my upcoming hair transplant, I would greatly appreciate it.  :-)

Wherever you are bro, I hope you enjoy the day!

The Tank's Taxi Strike Commentary on Fox 5 NY
Lightning strikes twice in a little over 24 hours.  I met A-Rod on Monday and then I was interviewed by Fox 5 last night about the taxi strike.  I was on the Upper East Side last night buying a my new pair of running shoes for next month's marathon.  After recognizing my friend and co-worker Jim on the street and catching up with him for a few minutes, I was then asked by star Fox 5 reporter Andrea Day to comment on the looming taxi strike.

To view the interview, please use the following link http://www.myfoxny.com/myfox/pages/News?pageId=3.1 and select the "Video: Taxi Strike Looming" on the middle right side of the page.  I appear about halfway through the segment commenting for a few seconds on being ripped off with the zone fares last month.

I don't know how long the interview will be on the website but a snapshot appears below.

Video courtesy of Fox 5.  Posted by the Tank interviewed Live by Fox 5 TV from Upper East Side of Manhattan in NY.

Remembering September 11
Yesterday marked the sixth annual observance of the terrorist attacks of September 11.  I hadn't called out sick from my past or current job in over four years since May 10, 2003, but a cold and some food poisoning (possibly the buffalo from last Thursday's Shackleton lecture) put me under the weather.

After getting some much needed rest and food, I went downtown to pay my respects to Chappelle and others who lost their lives that tragic day.  I walked around in a daze of disbelief even six years on and amid the cacophony of other mourners, tourists, police, and conspiracy theorists.  As I was walked back to the Subway, I recognized former NYSE Chairman Dick Grasso from TV and he had a comforting word.  A classy gentleman.  We may all come from different walks of life but united in this tragedy.  May God bless those who lost their lives on that fateful day and watch over us in the days and years to come.

Happy First Birthday SteveAndTheTank.com
Yesterday marked the first of hopefully many birthdays for SteveAndTheTank.com. I then registered the domain name a few days later and Steve posted an introduction to the world and then the first full post a year ago today.

Though lots of work (this is the 368th post), it has been fun and I want to thank everyone for their support especially Steve for co-creating, believing in, and maintaining and hosting the website.  Who thought we would have thought we would have covered everything from baseball and football to jello wrestling and pillow fighting or lasted as long?  I have met childhood heroes like Dave Winfield and Walt "Clyde" Frazier and a supermodel.  All in a years work for you, our loyal readers.

NYC Steam Explosion

I was enroute to attend a very special presentation Wednesday evening when I saw people gathered around television screens at around 54th and Park Wednesday afternoon.  People were watching television screens of the steam explosion in Manhattan.  Since I am a uber geek, I have an audio television feed on my walkman which has AM/FM/TV/Weather feeds as well as plays CDs and MP3s.  (Mega thanks to SuperTwin Gil for that tip.)  Anyway, I picked up the action and walked toward Lexington Avenue and 51st where the presentation was held, ten blocks north of the unfortunate accident.  (Thank God Linda, Steve, and Kathleen were okay as we met up for the presentation later!)

As I went to take a picture of the steam and smoke, a CNN photographer took a picture of me which appears on CNN.com (I included a JPG snapshot below because CNN.com continually updates the site as my photo was fifth earlier today and now it is eighth as more photos are added.)

My photo of the steam and smoke appears below:

"Come on Down" Dad!

Happy Father's Day to my Dad and all the other dads out there.  I love you Dad.

I also wanted to recognize a father like figure I grew up watching on TV, Bob Barker.  This past Friday marked Bob's last broadcast of the "The Price Is Right".  Bob was the face of the TPIR for over 35 years.

"Come On Down" is one of the best known phrases as the announcer calls for the contestant to come on down and see if the Price Is Right.  Bob then takes them through different price guessing games.  Family fun for everyone.

I don't know who will succeed Bob.  Rosie O'Donnell is a rumored replacement (hopefully not) or possibly former NY Giants running back Tiki Barber as I suggested when he retired a few months ago or even someone else.

Regardless of who succeeds in trying to fill Bob's large shoes, best wishes to Bob for a happy and healthy retirement.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer with barbecues, trips to the beach, and an extra day off to enjoy other leisure activities.

Memorial Day is much more than that.  Freedom isn't free; it is made possible by the blood of others who came before us.

Please take a moment today to remember the fallen in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you very much and God bless us all.

Sincerely,

The Tank

Happy Mother's Day

I know it's a day early, but I wanted to wanted to wish all the Moms, especially my Mom, a happy and healthy Mother's Day.

Moms are special and my Mom is the most special of them all.  My Mom wasn't born in America and didn't understand all the sports that I grew up playing and watching.  But she always supported me through good times (Yankees victories) and bad times (Bills four consecutive Super Bowl losses).  She would call after the latter to comfort me and ensure that I wasn't too depressed.

A mother's love is unconditional and my Mom's is the best.  I love you Mom.  Happy Mother's Day to all!

What I Learned on September 11

September 11th's lessons are profound on many levels, e.g. geopolitical, security, etc. which I'll leave for others to debate and discuss.  I'll describe two personal lessons that were driven home that fateful day.

(1) Sometimes God doesn't reveal His answers immediately but that's part of the mystery of life. For instance, my best friend from college, Bay Ridge Bob, got me an interview in August 1999, in his company that was literally packing up and moving as I was interviewing from 61 Broadway to the 78th and 79th floors of the World Trade Center.  I had a good interview and it seemed like a great crew to work with.  Working with my best friend, doing fun computer stuff, and getting paid to talk on (er, work with) Nextel Walkie-Talkies.  What could be better?  Though Bay Ridge Bob pulled for me, I didn't get the job.  I was angry at myself but thankfully transferred from the Help Desk to Network Operations after Luis V. took the LA IT Manager's job in October 1999.  The second plane went through the 80th floor, just above where I would have worked. Bay Ridge Bob thankfully was late because he went to vote that morning.  My perspective boss, Jonathan, thankfully escaped with jet fuel on his shirt from the second plane that had crashed through the floor above.  Unfortunately, there were four people in that company that never made it out.  Since I vote via absentee ballot and would have been on time, I may have been the fifth victim.  I now understood God's answer on why I didn't get the job in August 1999.

(2) Don't procrasinate about your feelings for someone, say what you feel TODAY.  I took a Windows 2000 course after work starting in the Spring of 2001.  I sat next to this cute girl named Chapelle R. Sarker. After working all day, she would elbow me in the ribs or shoulder to keep me awake.  As spring became summer, we started the Exchange part of the course that her and her colleague said that they would pick up in the Fall.  OK, I told myself, I'll ask her out in the Fall.  She worked for Marsh somewhere in the 90s of WTC and never made it out.  Procrastination got the better of me again.  Don't procrastinate, say what you feel to the people you care about.  R.I.P. Chapelle and all the other innocent victims who passed on that tragic day five years ago.  You are missed and loved.  Sincerely and God Bless.
