Sirius Satellite Radio Hosts Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister

As I blogged yesterday, I left Wednesday's Dbacks-Yankees game early to go to Sirius Satellite Radio, the home of Howard Stern.  Wow, what a thrill!

Linda texted me that the Dbacks hit a solo home run but the Yankees still lead and thankfully won 7-2.

While waiting for Dana and Colin in the lobby, I recognized Scott Farrell from Howard's Channel 101.  I remember listening to Farrell when I lived in DC in the mid 1990s.  I met him as part of a 102.7 WNEW FM promotion meet and greet outside of Cask and Flagon near Fenway Park in Boston on Saturday, September 1, 2001.  I never got a picture with him back in 2001 but he said stop on by the studio and he would oblige.  True to his word, he did.  Thanks Farrell!

It was awesome seeing the dozens of monitors mounted high on the reception area switching from song to song corresponding to each of Sirius's dozens of commercial free music stations.  Dana, Colin, Ariel the guitarist, and I are pictured below in the reception area.

The host, (John) Devore, escorted us into the high tech studios and introduced us to his co-host, Diana, as well as producer and intern.  Since it was "sex freak week" on the Devore and Diana Show, Dana, Colin, and Ariel sang the Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister theme song videotaped by yours truly.  The remainder of the 35 minutes of the show was entertaining banter about the show and commercials.  Devore predicted that Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister will take over the nation.  I think it will be worldwide because you are never too old to play kids games with an adult twist.  :-)

Puerto Rican Day Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister
Welcome back to the world's greatest kids games played by adults, Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister.  Sunday's contest was held at Henrietta Hudson's, a West Village lesbian bar.  I have never been to a lesbian bar before but do so for loyal readers like you.

Joseph and Tiana are your emcees.  DJ Skintight spins the tunes.  Chicara is your bartender; please tip her generously.  The mostly female audience is buzzing with excitement and bonding

Game #1 Musical Chairs:

Team Boobgrabbers versus Team Fabulous:

DJ Skintight starts off with "Get down on it".  Marilyn from Team Boobgrabbers and Aaron from Team Fabulous are the two most ferocious.  Marilyn says she is going win because she is "a lesbian" and Aaron says he is going to win because his stepmom is Puerto Rican.  (BTW, Happy Puerto Rican Day!).  As the music stops and Aaron has the advantage by being on the chair first, Madelin tips the extra high bar chair and Aaron and his chair down to the floor.  And you thought I played Musical Chairs rough.  Aaron is thankfully not hurt.

Tiebreaker: Ever the gentleman, Aaron concedes to Madelin.

Boob Grabbers 1, Team Fabulous 0.

--------

Team Virgins versus Team Dana:

DJ Skintight spins Queen's classic "Fat Bottom Girls", I make the Final Four and the last player on Team Dana.

Valerie from Team Virgins win the point.

After Game #1, Team Boobgrabbers - 1; Team Virgins - 1; Team Dana - 0; Team Fabulous - 0.

Game #2 Intimate Orange Relay: "The Name of the Game is Pass the Orange".

You have to pass the orange from one person to another while keeping the orange tucked between your neck and chin.  The orange can not hit the floor or you have to go back to the beginning.

Team Boobgrabbers versus Team Fabulous:

The orange drops between the jumping jacks and basketball bounce for Team Fabulous.  Church rocks the house as the beer anchor leg and leads Team Virgins to victory.

---------
Team Dana versus Team Boobgrabbers: I am the beer drinking leg so you gotta an idea of how this is going to go.  It actually didn't even get that far as the orange fell on the transfer between Alyona and myself.

Team Dana loses to Team Boobgrabbers who now have two points.

Game #3 Flip Cup:

It's the same drinking game from yesteryear.  Take a drink, flip the cup, and then go to the next player, etc.  The players are practicing in this photo.

Team Virgin versus Team Boobgrabbers: Team Boobgrabbers are talking lots of smack.  Nelly is an enthusiastic Puerto Rican woman who taunts her male and female opponents alike to beat her in Flip Cup.  "Mira!" indeed.

DJ Skintight spins Ace Frehey's classic "New York Groove".  Allan has trouble flipping the cup.  Timeout because lots of newcomers need to clarify the rules.  They needed to continue going down the line instead of celebrating with one another.

"You are strong!" Nelly shouts to her Boobgrabber teammates as the action is restarted.

Team Boobgrabbers almost lost their big lead but wins the match.

---------
Team Dana versus Team Boobgrabers: Some people go home to watch the Sopranos Finale (ending sucked) and the NBA Finals (the Spurs won in a rout), so the teams consolidated and most everyone (except me) likes drinking.

Everyone wants to play.  Since I am "the world's heaviest lightweight drinker", I am not picked for this game.

On the other hand, Church is recruited into the game for his drinking prowess.  Without fail, Church chugs his beer to start the game.

Two unnamed competitors in the middle were bogged down in flipping the cup.

Team Boobgrabbers wins and is up to four points.

-------

Game #4: Name That Tune: Self-explanatory.

"We're Not Going to Take it Anymore" by Twisted Sister.  Since no one knew it right away, I led the group in song and everyone picked it up a moment later.

"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell.  Everyone knew it right away and we sang it together.

"Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum.

"Good Thing" by The Fine Young Cannibals.

"Ice, Ice, Baby" by Vanilla Ice.

"Faith" by George Michael.  Allan, Tiana, and I lead the bar in song.

"Twist" by Chubby Checker.  I am the only one who knew this.  Come on people, I am not that much older than you.  It's a classic made even before I was born.

I didn't have a clue on the next two songs nor did anyone else.

"Party All the Time" by Eddie Murphy.

Game #5: Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister: The main event.

Tiana, Valerie, Shea, and Nelly are first to the mat.

Right hand blue
Right foot red
Left foot yellow (Nelly falls off.)
Left hand blue
Left foot green (Valerie is showing off her yoga skills and staying on the mat with ease.)

Left hand blue
Right hand green
Left foot red (Shea slipped and Tiana couldn't do it.)

Valerie is the champion.  Joseph asks her how she won, "I'm sorry I'm flexible."

-------

Wife versus Wife Match: Nelly and Julia have been together for a few years now but go to the mat in some friendly competition.

Right foot yellow ("No fighting" Dana tells them to leave it for Amateur Female Jello Wrestling on Father's Day, June 17, at 8 p.m. at Crash Mansion.  We'll be back at Henrietta Hudson's for Amateur Female Jello Wrestling on Sunday, July 29.)

Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister and Karaoke

It was great catching up with Dana, Colin, Church, Stephanie, Melissa, and other friends before Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister show began at Arlene's Grocery.  Stephanie is taking the place of Jessica Bly who is doing summer theatre.  Good luck Jessica!

Elijah warms up with yoga, stretching, and twister moves.  Allan and I concur that we do not want to keep against him in Twister.  I guess Elijah is psyching out the competition.

The Problem took the stage.  They classify themselves as "disco fuzz" with solid lyrics like "why don't you dance with me?" as Colin, Allan, Dana, and Elijah dance and play air guitar in front of the stage.  BTW, Stephanie apologies for calling Elijah "yoga boy" but his real nickname "Kite".  Check out The Problem in person.

DJ Skintight spins "Fly Rocket Fly".

Colin and Stephanie sing the catchy "Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister" theme recorded by yours truly, the Tank, a few months back.

Game #1: Musical Chairs.  Colin and Stephanie explained the rules.  It's pretty straightforward like when we were kids.

I huddle the Good Vibrations (Melissa, Jen, Church, Josh, and Elijah -- glad he's on my team).  Stephanie says that I use my "assets" to my advantage to make the final three.  My hips may not look like Shakira's but they don't lie and deliver a pretty fierce hip check to anyone trying to sit on my chair after the music stops in Musical Chairs.  :-)

After I was eliminated, Kristin is the individual champion.  I handed over my Musical Chairs Crown to her.

Next up, Rotten Cherri versus PBR Street Gang: DJ Skintight plays "Eye of the Tiger".

Since Melissa is a third grade teacher in Brooklyn, she can count and takes over duties of removing the extra chairs from Colin.

Colin asks me to break the tie between Maja and Brian Van.  I call it as I see them and Brian Van has the advantage.

It's now down to the final two.  Brian Van of the PBR Street Gang and Kee of Rotten Cherri stare each other down as the music plays on.  Brian Van wins as Kee is bounced off the final chair.

Ever the triple threat like in basketball, Stephanie does a great job of singing, emceeing, and playing Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister.  Stephanie now takes the stage as the Rotten Cherri's frontwoman.  While her lyrics are a lot like a young Pat Benatar, she looks like a young Gwen Stefani.  (BTW, Steve, Kathleen, Linda, and I saw Gwen in concert at Jones Beach on May 20.  Therefore, I could not file a report from that Sunday's Amateur Female Jello Wrestling.)

Elijah tries to teach Julia how to hoola hoop.  Julia is my female counterpart when it comes to hoola hooping.  I guess we all have our kryptonite.

Game #2: Intimate Orange Relay

The object of the game is to cradle an orange on your chin and chest while passing it to another person who hoola hoops, passes it to another who spins on a chair, yet another who does jumping jacks, and the final one who chugs a beer.  If the orange hits the floor, you have to go back to the start.

First up, Good Vibrations versus PBR Street Gang.

The Tank passes the orange to Jen who hoola hoops three times and then passes Elijah.  Elijah spins around the chair three times while playing the air violin before passing it to Josh who bounces the ball three times.  Josh passes it to Melissa who does three jumping jacks and passes it to Church.  But, no, the orange falls while Church is trying to chug the beer.  So back to the start and we begin again.

PBR also drops the orange at the same time so back to the beginning for them too.  In a close contest, Good Vibrations loses to PBR Street Gang.  Darn it!

Before the next round begins, Colin announces that he emcees karaoke at Lit every Sunday night.  Speaking of Colin, he utters the famous "You gotta be in it to win it!" to win Co-ed Disco Crisco Twister.

Next up, the Problem versus Rotten Cherri.

DJ Skintight spins the Ramones classic "I want to be sedated."

Rotten Cherri wins a photo finish.  When asked for opinion, I scored Brian Van rallying to finish.  In a split decision, I scored Brian Van winning it but outvoted by Colin, Stephanie (of Rotten Cherri), and Jade
the bartender broke the tie.  "Maybe Rotten Cherri tipped Jade the bartender more," Colin says.

After two rounds, the Problem has two points, PBR Street Gang one, Rotten Cherri one, and Good Vibrations zero.

The Problem retakes the stage as DJ Skintight spins the Bee Gees classic "You Should Be Dancing".

Game #3: Flip Cup Drinking Cup: Pretty self explanatory of drinking, flipping the cup over from the top to the bottom, NOT the side.

First up, Good Vibrations versus PBR Street Gang.

I was supposed to blog but drafted in the last minute.  It ended up being six on six instead of five on five.  As I am the world's heaviest lightweight drinker, where's Linda to drink my beer?

Billy Idol's cover of "Mony Mony" blares.  Allan finally flips the cup over.

PBR Street Gang beats Good Vibrations.

Game #4: Name That Tune:

Good Vibrations is down but not out.  Since I am child of both the 60s and 70s (conceived on Woodstock Weekend 1969 and born in May 1970), I better stay true to my retro roots.

DJ Skintight plays a short sample of the tune and then the teams have to sing the rest.

First up, "Burn Baby Burn" (not "Bern Baby Bern" after Yankees star Bernie Williams.).  Point for Good Vibrations.

"Hot Stuff".  Point for PBR Street Gang.

"Kung Fu Fighting".  Point for Good Vibrations.

"That's the Way I like it" by KC and the Sunshine Band.  (This is KC's best known song but his best song is "Please Don't Go" IMHO.)

"All I need is a miracle" by Mike and the Mechanics.  Point for Good Vibrations -- we are on a roll, knock on wood.

"Put me in Coach" by the Outfield.  Point for PBR Street Gang.

"We Are Family".  Point for Good Vibrations.

"Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister".  Point for the PBR Street Gang.

"Cookie Monster Theme".  Melissa saves the day here.

"Donchya" by the Pussycat Dolls.  Point for PBR Street Gang.

"She works hard for the money".  Point for Good Vibrations.

Since both teams are deadlocked with no signs of letting up, movie quotes were considered.  In the interest of time, all points count and onto the battle of the bands.  Yes, Rotten Cherri and the Problem can play music but do the young music stars know their musical trivia?

(BTW, Annie Rock's magical musical touch strikes again for booking these great bands.  She should be an AandR executive for a major label.)

Back to the Problem versus Rotten Cherri:

Neither band got all the lyrics to Rod Stewart's "Do You Think I'm Sexy".

"Carwash" -- strike two for both bands.  I suggest that Melissa teach a special summer school music course and I will be special guest singer as I know almost all the words.

"Loveboat" -- Neither team won.  Melissa and I stole the point as we knew the song.  In a pique over losing, Stephanie just fired her drummer.

Time for the Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister theme song with Colin, Stephanie, Allan, and Maja.  Everyone dances include me.  I can sing, dance, and blog at the same time.  Wooooo!

Allan announces that the next Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister is at Henrietta Hudson's in the West Village on Sunday, June 10.  The next Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister could be even more fun and chaotic than tonight.

Game #5 and The Main Event - Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister:

Good Vibrations versus PBR Street Gang.  Church and Elijah represent Good Vibrations.

Jen is the Twister Board Spinner.  Without further ado, here's the play by play, or spin by spin.  :-)

In other sports, you have to play through pain.  In Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister, you have to play whether you have clothing on or not.  :-)

------
Kristin and Ferhat of the Problem versus Stephanie and Dana playing for Rotten Cherri.  Stephanie asks the crowd to acknowledge the beauty of her legs.  No argument here.  All in favor say "Aye!".  All opposed say "Naye!".  The "Ayes" have it!  The motion is passed without dissent.  (I rarely pass up an opportunity to use Robert Rules of Order so my hard earned political science bachelor's degree does not lay fallow.)

Rotten Cherri rocked the after party and then we went to Lit for karaoke.  Boo yeah!  The night has just begun.  Onto Lit for karaoke emceed by Colin, one of the hardest working people in show biz.

Scott with the punk rock hair and New York Dolls t-shirt sang ACDC's "Shoot Me All Night Long".  Melissa and I sang Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'".  Everyone had a blast late into the night.

Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister

Today's guest blogger is from friend and fellow journalist, Melanie Blythe, who covered Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister for UNCOOLKIDS.com.  This review originally appeared on UNCOOLKIDS.com.

Without futher ado, here's Melanie's review:

Groggy, groaning, gurgly noises.

My head is killing me and WHERE are my PANTS??!!  Well, let's see… the last thing I remember was something about Left Foot on Blue- OH MY GOD… that's right- last night I was at Disco Crisco Twister!!!!!

*****FLASHBACK TO LAST NIGHT*****

I arrive cool and collected to Arlene's Grocery, a trashy little place with great style- just the kinda place where 'Drama Queen' shirts, converse sneaks and red leopard skin dresses abound.  There's a crowd playing FlipCup (and yes- it's a drinking game).

Dana Sterling (Queen of Amateur Female Jello Wrestling) and Annie Rocks (Music Promoter Extraordinaire) have teamed up once again to bring back the game of Twister, but this time with a twist- they've added a colorful slippery Crisco-like substance to the game board.   And, believe me- this game is a lot more interesting than it used to be.

The Ramblers, the house band, plays the Disco Crisco theme song with guest singer Stephanie from Rotten Cheri.  An event with it's own theme-song sounds like a good idea to me.  Food Will Win the War had a different sound- go East Village!

DJ Skintight kept the great tunes coming when the bands weren't playing.  Colin, Alan and Jessica were our Emcees for the evening.

COLIN: Let's lube this sh*t!  (The slippery stuff is added & the games begin.)

Right Hand Green, Left Foot Red.  I will survive, hey, hey.

ALAN: From here I feel like a proctologist with all these butts in the air.  Dana is lubing up Becca, the birthday girl.

COLIN: That's dangerous right there.

Right Foot Yellow, Left Hand Blue.

COLIN: This twister board has a mind of it's own.

ALAN: Next time we should do it with a Ouiji board- I like the idea of evil spirits telling you where to go.

Dana takes on the board.  I need some hot stuff baby this evening. She's a very freaky girl, the kind you can't take home to mother.

Left Foot Green, Right Foot Red. It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight.

GUY ON TWISTER BOARD: He's f*ckin' drippin' sweat on me, dude--- just go!

Left Foot Yellow, Left Hand Red.  Just beat it, no one wants to be defeated.

Unexpectedly, this game of twister turns into twister in your underwear.  Dude on board starts losing his boxers, but cannot move, lest he lose the game of twister.  He's not about to back down.  Dana and Becca wrestle his boxers off of him.  People- we now officially have erotic, lubed up, naked Disco Crisco Twister and everyone is covered in green goo.

Kindergarten takes the stage with an animated performance and fresh punk/funk sound.  The NY moon is beautiful.  They start losing their clothes, too.

BECCA: When in doubt, get naked!

Everyone on the dance floor is in their underwear- the undies have taken over!

Overall: It's juvenile in the best possible way, it's ridiculous, its fun!  Come alone or with friends- play or even just sit on the sidelines and watch the action from an unsticky vantage point.  It was kinda a mix between a frat party drunken brawl and a child's sweet, innocent birthday party.  I don't even remember who won, but I would definitely do it again.  Catch Disco Crisco Twister monthly.

Now, let's see... what happened to my pants??

Will the Tank Conquer His Hoola Hoop Demons and Win Musical Chairs?

It's time for everyone's favorite adult co-ed game show, Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister, which features kids games like Musical Chairs, Name That Tune, and Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister.  Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister
offers men the opportunity to participate as they are not allowed in Amateur Female Jello Wrestling.

--------
The house band warmed the crowd up with classics like "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Bungles and "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.

Your co-hosts Colin and Jessica rally the crowd with the Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister theme and explain the rules.  Colin also has in his own band.  Check out Willpilotmusic!  Good rocking music!

Without further ado, it's time for Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister.

Contest #1: Musical Chairs: FireFlies versus Watchers.  Round and round they go to the tune of the Pussycat Dolls' "Doncha Ya" ("Milkshake") song.

As the competitors try to balance holding onto to their beers as they contest for position for an open chair, some unfortunately spills.  "No crying over spilled beer," Colin quips.

The band changes speed and it's down to Seth of the FireFlies versus Sheena.

Seth was a gentleman and yielded his seat to Sheena.

Voyeurs scored their first point.

(1B) Voyeurs versus Church: The Tank made the final five in his last appearance and hopes to do better this time.  Team Church is really strong with Church, Chia, Dana, and the Tank.  Team Church has three of the final four competitors -- almost like the 1985 Final Four with Big East Powers Georgetown, Saint John's, and eventual champion Villanova.  Andrea from Team Voyeurs is eliminated so Team Church wins by default.

Who will be the eventual individual champion?  Chia is the next to be eliminated.  It's down to the Tank and Church.  The competition is fierce as Church and the Tank are two equally rugged men.  Round and round they go, the music stops, and Church and the Tank battle for position.  This is not for the faint of heart.  The Tank and Church battle for the chair like a basketball rebound ala the Bruise Brothers, Jeff Ruland and Rick Mahorn, battling each other instead of the other team.  It's almost like the old Dodge Ram commercial where the two rams collide.  The Tank locks in, lowers his left shoulder, and plants his right leg in the floor.  This is reminscient of when he became the King of the Metallica Mosh Pit at Woodstock 1999.  BTW, the look at James Hetfield's face was priceless as the Tank wore Ric "The Nature Boy" Flair's t-shirt and bellowed his trademark "Wooooo!" into the Upstate New York night.  :-)

The Tank conquers his hoola hoop demons and wins the Musical Chairs competition.  Wooooo!

Contest #2: Pass the Orange Relay:

(2A) The FireFlies versus the Watchers.

Person #4 on the Watchers lost the orange so they had to go back to the beginning.

Person #3 on the Watchers (DBA the FireFlies) lost the orange.  "The FireFlies can play music but can the win the relay?" Colin muses.

Both teams are dead even down to the beer chugging leg and the FireFlies win their second point.

(2B) Voyeurs versus Team Church:

The Tank passed the orange to Chia, Chia is an ace hoola hooper.  Chia passed it to Zach but the orange slipped.  Church threw it back to the Tank who restarted it.  The Voyeurs had a lead but their beer drinker dropped the orange.  Team Church's rally anchored by Church's excellent beer drinking won the day for Team Church and puts them in the lead with 2 points.

-----
As the Ramblers take the stage, the Tank wishes Jessica luck in her upcoming biathlon.  Go Jessica Go!

--------
Event #3 Flip Cup: One beer per team.

(3A) Team Church versus the FireFlies: As Chia doesn't drink beer and the Tank is the world's heaviest lightweight drinker, we give our beer to Church, our MVD, Most Valuable Drinker.

Team Church takes an early lead and extends it as Church is the fastest beer drinker in the land.  But, he unfortunately could not flip the cup onto the table so the FireFlies ties Team Church for the lead at 2
points each.

(3B) Voyeurs versus the Watchers:

In a closely contested race, the Voyeurs lose a tough one to the Watchers.  Dana slams her cup in defeat.

The Watchers score their first point.

-------
*** Upcoming Events FYI:

(A) Due to the Easter and Passover Holiday Weekend, we'll skip the second Sunday of April.  Therefore, Sunday April 15, is the next Amateur Female Jello Wrestling at Don Hill's and Sunday, April 22, is the next
Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister back at Arlene's Grocery.

(B) DJ Lokey is spinning the tunes.

----------

Event #4 Name That Tune: Yes, name the tune but also continue with the chorus.

The FireFlies have the advantage as they are solid musical team.  What was the name of the first tune?  Wow!  That was fast.  Point to the FireFlies.  They continue to roll with the following:

"Like being abused." - FireFlies

"I touch myself" - Watchers

"The boys are back in town" - FireFlies

"I am loser baby" Church but didn't get artist, Beck.

"Killing Me Softly" - FireFlies.  For a bonus point, Colin asks who Roberta Flack wrote that song about.  Not even the FireFlies knew that the answer was Stevie Wonder.

"Satisfaction" - Not sure who got that point.

"Holiday" - The Tank does his best Madonna impersonation.  Point to Team Church.  Boo yeah!

"Safety Dance" - Watchers.

"Come on Light My Fire" - FireFlies.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" - Not sure who got that one.

"Life is a highway" - Voyeurs.

The FireFlies obviously have an unfair advantage.

At the end of Name That Tune, the FireFlies have the lead with 8 points with the Watchers (5 points), Team Church (3 points), Voyeurs (3 points), Colin (1 point).
---------
Event #5 Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister: The event you all have been waiting for....

After the crisco is spread on the Twister mat, all competitors must put their hands in Crisco:

Church and Chia compete for Team Church and Zach and Jeremy compete for Team Voyeurs.

Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister
Welcome back to Arlene's Grocery for the first ever Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister.  A cameraman filmed Dana pouring and preparing the red colored Crisco to be used later.

Just before the Attorneys were about to start the show, the Tank checked the scores of the NFL Conference Championships.  Damn you Rex Grossman for beating my beloved Saints!  You will not only pay for my hair restoration procedure but put my nephew and five Godchildren through college.  This is personal!

Go Colts!  You better beat the Patriots.

Back to the show, the Attorneys played good straight up rock and roll!  They are a three man jam.  Tight lyrics and solid playing.  Well rehearsed but did a good job on the fly of integrating Co-Ed Disco Crisco Twister lyrics.  Kudos to Annie
