NFL Week #13 Picks
Last Week's Review: I was 2-1 on the week and 11-6 on the season. I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong with the Jets upset victory at the previously undefeated Titans. This Week's Fearless Picks: The 49ers lose at the Bills. The Giants win a tough game at Redskins. The Broncos lose at the Jets. If the Jets want the #2 seed in the AFC, they can't afford a let down. Running the table will help secure it as the Steelers have a much tougher schedule down the stretch. Posted by The Tank.

College Football Week #14 Picks
Last Week's Review: I was 4-2 last week and 17-9 on the season. I was pleasantly surprised with Syracuse's upset win at Notre Dame. Former Notre Dame and NBA star Adrian Dantley's son led the Orangemen to victory. Let's Go Orange! On the other hand, I was disappointed that Texas Tech didn't show up at Oklahoma and lost 65-21. Ouch! This Week's Fearless Picks: #22 Georgia Tech loses at #11 Georgia. #4 Florida wins at #20 Florida State. #23 Oregon loses at #17 Oregon State. The Oregon "Civil War" is always tough to pick. #3 Oklahoma wins at #12 Oklahoma State. Local: Syracuse loses at #16 Cincinnati. Rivalry: Auburn loses at #1 Alabama. Roll Tide! NFL Week #12 Picks
Last Week's Review: I was 2-1. The Bills were wide right AGAIN on Monday night with 38 seconds left against the Browns or I would have been perfect. Darn it! I am 9-5 on the season. This Week's Fearless Picks: The Jets lose at the undefeated Titans. The Jets will put up a good fight. The Bills win at the Chiefs. The Giants win at the Cardinals. Their Arizona magic continues after this past February's Super Bowl victory. Posted by The Tank in NY.

College Football Week #13 Picks
Last Week's Review: I was 2-0 and 13-7 on the season. This Week's Fearless Picks: This is Rivalry Week with some awesome matchups. These games are better than the New Year's Games because they are "play-in" games to get the New Year's Invitation. Plus, no New Year's Day hangover. #15 Michigan State loses at #8 Penn State. The winner wins the Big Ten Title. #14 Brigham Young loses at #7 Utah. These are fierce in state rivals. #20 Pittsburgh loses at #19 Cincinnati. The winner wins the Big East Title. #2 Texas Tech wins at #5 Oklahoma. This is the hardest game of the week, if not season, to pick. Rivalry Picks: Michigan loses at #10 Ohio State. Local Picks: Syracuse loses at Notre Dame. Posted by a psyched Tank in NY.

College Football Week #12 Picks
Last Week Review: I was 5-0 last week (woo, touch wood) and 11-7 on the season. This Week's Fearless Picks: There is only one game where both teams are ranked. #25 South Carolina loses at #4 Florida. Local Picks: Connecticut wins at Syracuse. Posted by The Tank in NY.

Veterans Day Remembered. NFL Week #11 Picks
Veterans Day Remembered: It is always important to thank all those who have served our country, especially in combat. For those who have passed in the line of duty, may their memories be eternal. Last Week Review: 3-0, touch wood, and 7-4 on the season. This Week's Fearless Picks: Since the Jets are playing on Thursday night at the Patriots, I have to make my predictions earlier this week so you can make money. Good luck! The Jets win at the Patriots. This is a national NFL Network game with first place on the division on the line. No Tom Brady for the Patriots and the Jets have Brett Favre. Yes, the game is in New England but I think the Jets defense will force Cassel to make mistakes. Given Thomas Jones' success, watch the Jets to try to mix it up with Brett taking chances with some long passes as part of the Mangini-Belichick chess match. The winner is in the driver's seat to make the playoffs. The Ravens lose at the Giants. The Browns lose at the Bills on Monday night. Posted by a grateful Tank in NY.

College Week #11 Picks
Last Week Recap: I was 0-3 last week. Darn Texas Tech and Florida! I am 6-7 on the season. The Week's Fearless Picks: #12 TCU loses at #8 Utah. #20 Georgia Tech loses at #19 North Carolina. #1 Alabama wins at #16 LSU. This could pit this year's national champion against last year's national champion. Add in former LSU and current Alabama Coach Nick Saban comes home. Expect the Tigers to be extra super duper fired up for this Bayou Battle. Go Tide! #9 Oklahoma State loses at #2 Texas. Watch for Texas to rebound after last week's classic against Texas Tech. #21 Cal loses at #7 USC. Written by The Tank and posted by Steve in NY.

Last Week Recap: I was 1-3 last week. I am 6-4 on the season. This Week's Fearless Picks:
#8 Florida loses at #6 Georgia. This will be an offensive barn burner.
#1 Texas wins an offensive shootout at #7 Texas Tech.
Local Teams Outlook:
Louisville wins at Syracuse.

2008-2009 NBA Picks
It's that time of year again for my cousin Mirko, his best friend Lubo,
and I to put our money where our mouths are with annual NBA teams.
Well, no money but lots of bragging rights on the line. 2007-2008 Recap: I was unfortunately correct last year as I predicted a Celtics victory in the Finals. 2008-2009 Outlook: The Lakers make up for their poor performance in Game 6 of the Finals and take it home this year. 2008-2009 Fearless picks are the top three divisional seeds followed by the other seeds:
Eastern Conference: 1. Boston Celtics 2. Orlando Magic 3. Detroit Pistons4. Cleveland Cavaliers5. Atlanta Hawks6. Philadelphia 76ers7. Chicago Bulls8. Toronto RaptorsDark Horse: Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, NJ Nets. Conference Champion: Celtics Western Conference: 1. Los Angeles Lakers2. New Orleans Hornets3. Utah Jazz4. Phoenix Suns5. Houston Rockets6. Dallas Mavericks7. San Antonio Spurs8. Portland TrailblazersDark Horse: Golden State, Minnesota Timberwolves, LA Clippers. Conference Champion: Lakers NBA Champion: Lakers Local
Teams: It's a mixed bag for our local teams this year. You can't get
more painful than the Knicks' 23 wins. I have a call into Heather
Locklear for some pain killers and a date. Seriously, I
like Coach D'Antoni and his up tempo style. He doesn't have the
players he wants/needs yet (Lebron and/or D-Wade) but the team seems
energized. Everyone wants to move on from the post-Isiah Thomas era. Knicks: 34 wins. The Nets made lots of changes in the off-season. Nenad Kristic signed with a Russian team. I can't believe that Vince Carter is starting his tenth season in the NBA. The Nets success will depend upon the success of rookie Chris Douglas-Roberts. If the newcomers can adjust and gell, the Nets can make a run at the playoffs. Nets: 32 wins. Posted by an psyched Tank in NY.

NFL Week #8 Picks
Last Week Review: I was 2-1 last week and 2-1 on the season.. The Raiders played better than I thought and the Jets disappointed. This Week's Fearless Picks: The Giants lose at the Steelers. Though Santonio Holmes' season (and career) might be up in smoke, the Steelers are 5-1 and have home field advantage. Let's see who gets the better of the rivalry between 2004 Draft class quarterbacks Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. The Jets beat the Chiefs. The Bills beat the Dolphins. Posted by The Tank in NY.

College Football Week #9 Picks
Last Week Review: I was 5-1 last week and season. I suspected a Rutgers upset over Connecticut but didn't pick it. I would have been perfect. Darn it!
This Week's Fearless Picks:
#8 Texas Tech wins at #23 Kansas.
#6 Oklahoma State wins at #1 Texas.
#7 Georgia loses at #13 LSU. This is the second toughest game of the
week to pick. This is a game of the year nominee in the making. Georgia is tough but home field advantage makes the difference.
#3 Penn State loses at #9 Ohio State. This is the toughest game of the
week to pick. This is a game of the year nominee in the making. Ditto home field advantage.

Rays Win World Series in Six Games
Unlike the other major two party Presidential candidates, The Tank is taking a stand that the Tampa Bay Rays will win the World Series in six games over the Philadelphia Phillies. Senator McCain claims that Senator Obama is flip-flopping on the issue as both states represent important swing states: "At a small rally at a factory in Bensalem, Pa., McCain said, "'I'm not
dumb enough to get mixed up in a World Series between swing states, but
I think I may have detected a little pattern with Senator Obama. When
he's campaigning in Philadelphia, he roots for the Phillies, and when
he's campaigning in Tampa Bay, he shows love to the Rays.'" If there is a Game 6, Senator Obama has purchased 30 minutes of TV on Fox which will broadcast the World Series. The start time of the game will be delayed. The Rays have the momentum and home field advantage gained when Steve, Kathleen, Jack, and I attended the greatest All Star Game ever at the Stadium in July. We'll see how cold the Phillies bats are after a long time off as the Rockies were last year and the Tigers in 2006. Senator McCain should take a stand and Senator Obama should stop his alleged flip-flopping. That's why I launched this Baseball Integrity Presidential bid. If there is no baseball integrity, what can we expect on other issues of the day? Posted by The Tank on the road to the White House.

NFL Week #7 Picks
Last year's were solid, touch wood. I almost went wire-to-wire with the Patriots as I did with the Colts in 2006. But, I am grateful the Patriots lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl. I haven't wanted to be so wrong in my life. After being embarrassed by SATT friend Braylon Edwards and the Browns, the Giants bounce back in a big way and beat the 49ers. The Jets take care of business in Oakland. It may not be pretty but a "win is a win is a win". Bills win a close game versus San Diego. This is a really tough game to pick as the spread is "pick 'em". Posted by The Tank in NY.

College Football Week #8 Picks
Welcome back college football fans! Rules: I pick Top 25 teams playing each other. It's not fair to pick a ranked team over a "cupcake". I challenge myself in picking games between ranked powers. I also pick some local favorites, i.e. Syracuse (mine), Rutgers (Kathleen's team), etc. (Steve doesn't follow college football.)
I don't know what to make of Rutgers other than the fact that they are
a disappointing 1-5 going into today's game at home. Rutgers
played in a bowl game last season so I'm not sure what is going on.
Top 25 Match ups: #1 Texas holds off a tough Missouri team. #4 Oklahoma bounces back from their disappointing loss to Texas last week and beats #16 Kansas at home. #10 Georgia beats #22 Vanderbilt at home. #12 Ohio State goes into Lansing and beats #20 Michigan State. Local Teams: Syracuse loses at #19 South Florida. Connecticut wins at Rutgers. By recent reputation, you would think that Rutgers would be 5-1 and Connecticut would be 1-5. Coach Schiano is a very good coach who recruits well. Beware of a Rutgers upset.

Take It To The Bank With The Tank - "Rock Chalk Jayhawk!"
I reconvened at PG's Place on the Upper West Side to watch the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Game. PG was with me at the infamous Knicks-Nuggets fight at the Garden in December 2006. Kansas had a five point lead at halftime. Rose hit a sick bank shot with 4:16 left in the second half. It was reviewed to be a two instead of a three. Let's see how that plays out later in the game. Memphis went on 16-4 run to overtake Kansas. But, Kansas got a steal and hit a three to close it to 60-56. Chris Douglas-Roberts hit two free throws to make it 62-56. Joey Dorsey fouled out with 1:23 left. Chris Douglas-Roberts missed a free throw. Kansas scored to make it 62-60. Memphis takes a timeout with 44 seconds left . Robinson got blocked with 20 seconds left. Chris Douglas-Roberts misses two free throws but Dozier gets the rebound. Chris Douglas-Roberts slams the ball down with 10.6 seconds left. Shouldn't he be called for a technical? The refs feel differently and don't call a technical foul. "The Kansas point guard (Collins) should be shot!" (for bringing the ball up so slow). But, "Super Mario" Chalmers bailed him out with a clutch three to tie it at 63. Advantage to Kansas because Dorsey is out with five fouls and Memphis missed four of last five free throws in regulation. Memphis wins the tip but Kansas gets the steal to take a 65-63 lead. PG wants Patrick Ewing going into the Loser's Hall of Fame instead of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Collins' East to West dribbling doesn't get it done for PG. Rush got the outlet, got his rebound to make it 71-65. Chris Douglas-Roberts hits a three to make it 71-68. It was their first basket in over six minutes. "Super Mario" Chalmers hits both ends of the 1 and 1 with 45.1 seconds left in overtime. Collins from Kansas slips loses the ball on the inbound. PG is about to kill him. "Don't dribble!" PG yells at Memphis before Chris Douglas-Roberts misses a three. Kansas came back from down nine with two minutes left in regulation. Kansas wins 75-68. Congratulations to KU! Congratulations to Coach Bill Self! Congratulations to Assistant Coach Danny Manning for getting into the College Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday. Larry Brown coached Danny and the Miracles to Kansas' last championship in 1988. It was a very memorable time as I was on my high school senior trip to Washington, DC. For those keeping the score, The Tank picked Kansas to win it all at the beginning of the tournament, touch wood. (This is even more accurate than my pick of Ohio State beating Florida 75-73 in last year's Finals. However, it was as accurate as my Yankees 94 win prediction during the Yankees' darkest hour last summer or Ohio State beating Michigan by three points in the Immortality Bowl in November 2006 to beat out ESPN's Scouts Inc who had Michigan winning the game by three points.) If you ever have a chance to go to Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas, please go. I trained in Lawrence in team handball in the U.S. Olympic Festival in Los Angeles in the summer of 1991. In between training sessions, I went to the "Phog" with a couple of teammates. The lights were off during the day and sunlight streamed through the windows. It is a basketball cathedral and I heard the ghosts from the past. "Rock Chalk Jayhawk!" "Rock Chalk Jayhawk!" It's times like that make college sports so much more special than professional sports. 2008 MLB Predictions
It's that time of year again. Without further ado, here we go:
AL East: Yankees Red Sox Blue Jays D-Rays Orioles
AL Central: Tigers Indians White Sox Minnesota Royals
AL West: Angels Mariners As Rangers
Wild Card: Red Sox
Dark Horse: Blue Jays, White Sox, As
Summary: This is a very difficult year to pick. There are essentially six teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Indians, Angels, Mariners) competing for four spots. Each team has its strengthens and weakness. The Yankees have the bats but not sure about Kennedy and Pettitte's back. I would have picked the Red Sox as Manny and Big Papi are healthy. But, Schilling is out for half the season and I'm not sure how healthy Beckett will be. The Tigers have the bats and arms. The Angels were a lock until their recent pitching woes. The Mariners have rebuilt and still have Ichiro.
If Halliday is healthy, the Blue Jays can challenge for the AL East. I don't know which Ozzie Guillen will show up. The White Sox are talented but he has to go back to the looseness of a relaxed clubhouse that won it all in 2005. If Ozzie goes back to the loose cannon of the past couple of seasons, the White Sox will struggle. The As still have great pitching and will be in the mix if they have consistent offense.
AL Champion: Yankees.
NL East: Mets Phillies Braves Nationals Marlins
NL Central: Cubs Brewers Cardinals
Reds Astros Pirates
NL West: Hardest division to pick
Diamondbacks
Dodgers Padres Rockies Giants
Wild Card: Phillies.
Summary: The NL East is going to be a battle royale between the Mets, Phillies, and Braves. The Cubs are better but probably not the year they win it all. They last won it all in 1908, yes, 100 years ago. Joe Torre will help the Dodgers contend but they are a year or two away.
Dark Horse: Braves, Brewers, Dodgers.
NL Champion: Mets.
World Series Champion: Yankees in seven games.
Bottom Line: My brain tells me to pick the Tigers but my heart says the Yankees have a little more magic in the last Stadium, God Willing/touch wood/lucky rabbit's foot/etc.
Local Team Outlook: The Yankees have gotten younger through an emotionally trying 2007. In the Yankees' darkest hour on July 12, I predicted 94 wins and that's what happened. I like Joba as Mariano's setup man and eventual successor. I like Hughes and Kennedy. In 2008, the Yankees will win 98+ games. The Mets will win 95+ games. Both teams will be made or broken by how long their starters can last and how their middle relief is. Joe Smith got the Mets out of a tough seventh inning against the White Sox in the Civil Rights Game.

Bruised But Not Broken Brackets
I took some hits last weekend with the losses of Duke, Georgetown, and other favorites.
According to ESPN, only 2 out of 3,000,000+ brackets in their competition had all Sweet 16 teams in tact. I only had eight correct Sweet 16 teams but my Final Four is still intact, touch wood. More points per game are awarded in later rounds as the Final Four approaches.

Day 1 Recap of the Madness
I had a good start and won the first eight games. There are always upsets and tried to pick a couple. 13 out of 16 correct picks, touch wood. Here's where I went wrong:
(1) Notre Dame recovered after a bad Big East tournament. George Mason had two returning players from the Final Four two years ago so I thought this might be an upset.
(2) West Virginia surprised me. I overestimated Arizona. Bob Huggins is a great coach and Lute Olson isn't back until next season.
(3) I thought USC's Mayo would have gotten the better of Kansas State's Beasley in the battle of top freshmen.
Duke was nearly upset by Belmont. That would have hurt my (and almost everyone else's) picks but I didn't have them go to the Final Four. Upsets happen but you have to weather the storm and hope your Final Four picks advance. I was tied for second and in third out of 100+ brackets a couple of years ago at a prior job. I would have been in the money had if Villanova or UConn made the Final Four. They lost in the Elite 8. Darn it!
It's nice to see everyone get in on the fun, except for Senator Clinton who didn't fill out a bracket according to reports. That is one of the reasons I am running against her for President on the Baseball\Sports Integrity Ticket with Steve as my VP. Senator Obama ate chicken wings with fans at a bar in West Virginia. Senator Obama picked UNC, possibly to gain favor from Senator Edwards who is a huge UNC fan and ahead of the upcoming primaries in North Carolina. Senator McCain also picked UNC and his picks are here.

Super Bowl Prediction
Two Weeks Ago: I was 1-1 in the Conference Championship games and 34-14 on the season.
Super Bowl Prediction: The Pats were my Super Bowl pick going back to the NFL Draft and my pre-season picks. I normally like being correct. I want and need to be wrong as the Boston Apocalypse is upon our door. World peace and harmony hangs in the balance.
However, I have to be intellectually honest to you, my dear readers. After much deliberation, I think the Patriots will win 27-17 but there is some consolation for the gamblers that the Giants will cover the 12 point spread. I have a free Cold Stone ice cream riding on the line. The Giants are such under dogs that I will get a free Cold Stone ice cream if the Giants win. If the Giants lose, I owe the bettor nothing. Talk about an underdog.
How can the Giants win?
(1) Soften up the Patriots defense with Bradshaw the speedester and Jacobs the bruiser. This keeps Tom Brady and the potent Patriots offense off the field.
(2) Give Tom Brady different looks. Yes, Tom Brady is a very smart quarterback. White Fedora Mike and I suspect that last week's leg boot was a ruse. BUT, just maybe, a rush can slow him down or make him make an uncharacteristic mistake.
Keep the faith! Go Giants!

NFL Conference Championship Picks
Last Week's Picks: I was 2-2 last week and 33-13 on the season.
This Week's Fearless Picks:
The Patriots beat the visiting Chargers: This is already a tall mountain to climb, higher than Everest Base Camp that Steve and I plan to climb this later year (touch wood). It will be even higher as the Chargers best players (Gates, Rivers, LT, etc.) are injured or out. That said, I plan to root for the "San Diego Super Chargers". This is a reference to the fight song from the great Charger teams of yesteryear. The best game I ever watched on TV was the Chargers losing at the Dolphins in the early 1980s. Kellen Winslow Sr. blocked a field goal, caught passes, and had to be carried off the field from exhaustion.
The Giants lose at the Packers: This promises to be a classic in historic Lambeau Field. From the weather reports this week, I thought I was watching the Weather Channel.
The Giants have to run the ball effectively to set up the pass. Eli has to adjust to wearing a glove on his left and non throwing hand.
The game will probably come down to a slip or fall on a key play on the snowy and cold turf of Lambeau Field. It maybe one of the banged up Giants defensive backs but life is rarely fair.
The Giants can win this game by blitzing Favre. Speaking of the gunslinger, I am rooting for Favre to ride out into the sunset on his horse.
I agree whole heartedly with Steve, football should be played outdoors (AND on grass -- not astroturf), baseball should have retractable roofs for rain delays (like Seattle -- note to Yankees and Mets). Posted by an excited Tank in Football Heaven.

NFL Divisional Playoff Picks
Last Week's Record: A perfect 4-0, touch wood. I am 31-11 including the regular season.
This Week's Fearless Picks: Sorry for the delay but I've been busy this week.
The Seahawks lose at the Packers. Snow showers are forecasted at Lambeau Field.
The Patriots hold off the strong Jaguars. The Boston Sports Apocalypse unfortunately continues for another week. The Chargers lose at the Colts. LT is on turf but Marvin Harrison is back. Expect the crowd in the RCA Dome to be loud.
The Giants lose to the Cowboys this season in the Jessica Simpson Bowl. How healthy is Terrell Owens' ankle? How rusty is Terry Glenn? How does the banged up Giants secondary respond? Say what you want about TO, he is a gamer, especially playing on a broken ankle for the Eagles in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago against the Patriots. If the Giants do win, I will look forward to my buddy and Giants fan extraordinaire Eddie Trunk playing at least part of a Jessica Simpson song as part of his promise on his hard rock and heavy metal show next Friday night on Q104.3. Will Ed's sometime co-host "Metal Mike" Piazza stop by the studios next week to witness the madness? Posted by The Tank in NY.

Bowl Championship Series Pick
Ohio State returns to the BCS Championship game against against another worthy SEC team, LSU, on Monday night.
Ohio State had better players in 2006 including Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith but the 2007 team is just that, a better team. Ohio State must contain LSU's explosive offense by controlling the ball and mixing the run and pass. LSU's Les Miles is a great coach and a Michigan alumnus but Ohio State's Coach Jim Tressel is slightly better. The margin between victory and defeat is usually not much and this promises to be a classic like USC and Texas a couple of years ago.
The religious and sports holidays continue as I am looking forward to a Christmas Night present according to the Julian/Old Calendar. My Holiday Season starts with Thanksgiving and ends at Chinese New Year.
Let the good times, holidays, and football roll. Wooooo! Posted by The Tank in NY.

NFL Wildcard Picks
Last Week: I was 3-0 last week and 27-11 for the regular season. This Week's Fearless Picks: Sorry Buffalo Steve, Jacksonville wins at the Steelers.
The Chargers beat the Titans at home.
The Seahawks beat the Redskins at home.
The Giants win at the Bucs. Avoid picking this game because I don't know which Giants team will show up. The Giants are injured but pumped after playing the Patriots hard last week. Eli Manning has to manage the game and let the running game win the game.

NFL Week #15 Predictions
Last Week: I was 3-0 last week and 20-10 for the season.
This Week's Fearless Picks:
The Bills lose at the Browns in a hard fought Rustbelt special.
The Jets lose badly at New England in Spy Bowl. The Jets best hope is a blizzard followed by monsoon followed by heat wave... Expect Patriots Coach Bill Belichick to run up the score on his former protege Eric Mangini. If Belichick beat friends like Bills Coach Dick Jauron 56-10 earlier in the season, he will try to score 100 points against new enemy Mangini.
The Giants beat the Redskins.

NFL Week #14 Picks
I was 2-1 last week. I missed being perfect by one point as the Bills beat the Redskins 17-16 on a last second field goal. I am 17-10 on the season.
This Week's Fearless Picks:
The Bills beat the Dolphins at home.
The Jets lose at home to the Browns. As the sun sets in the 4:15 pm game, it could affect the Browns who are not used to playing in the unique wind and weather pattern of Giants Stadium. Perhaps it is the ghost of Jimmy Hoffa.
The Giants beat the Eagles. This is a tough game to pick because of the Giants' lack of consistency and Donovan McNabb may not be 100 percent.

NFL Week 13 Picks
Last Week: I was 2-1 last week and 15-9 on the season. I would have been perfect if the Giants were in sync and could run pass patterns and catch the football against the Vikings.
This Week's Fearless Picks:
Buffalo loses at Washington. The Redskins are tough at home and playing in memory of their late teammate, Sean Taylor. R.I.P. Sean.
The Jets win at the winless Dolphins.
The Giants bounce back and win at the Bears. Eli Manning must step up. This is the hardest game of the week to pick. Avoid it at all costs as it is a "trap game".
