Steve and the Tank! - I have never used steroids, period

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig and union leader Donald Fehr testify before the US Congress today about steroids and baseball and specifically the Mitchell report. This will be followed by players, including Roger Clemens, next month. I hope that Congress asks hard questions since I believe that Selig and Fehr are responsible for the crisis. After the strike ended the season in 1994, players came back bigger and started to hit home runs bringing the fans back to the stadium. I think Selig and Fehr looked the other way. Congress better get tough, they were lied to by Rafael Palmeiro, since Oliver North spent time in jail for lying to Congress, so should Rafael Palmeiro.

That brings me to Roger Clemens. Roger Clemens claims he is innocent. He taped a phone call with his McNamee (his accuser) last week and then went on 60 Minutes and held a press conference. McNamee told federal prosecutors and the Mitchell investigation that he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone, Clemens claims that he got a B12 shot from McNamee and that is it. If you have the best health insurance in the world and can see the best doctors in the world and your body is you career, are you going to trust a non-doctor to shoot you up with B12 in case you are feeling a little cold coming on? Please Roger, nobody but the Tank believes your story. (And even the Tank has his doubts.) I have no health insurance and I would never trust my personal trainer to inject anything into my body, and all I do is climb mountains for fun, not money.

Sorry Roger, it does not add up. Plus storming out of your own press conference saying you don't need to prove anything, don't need the hall of fame and can't wait to get out of baseball to avoid the press is not going to help. Andy Pettette confessed, McNamee injected him, time for you to do the same.

Normally I stand with the Tank. Today I depart from his excellent point about innocent until proven guilty. Steve is right. Unless you are doing something shady, you do not let non-medical professionals inject you with anything. I am married to a medical professional but I won't let her inject any chemical into my body (even though she would say she is capable).

No one loves the fundamental laws of our nation more than I do (excpet maybe the Tank), but this joker has a terrible story and actions incongrous with "B12 shots."

That all being said, what does this guy gain by coming clean? Any fans of his that exist today will never "unfan" him, so he won't loose his base fans. He is rich enough to never play again, so he doesn't need baseball playing employment. Since he is famous (infamous?) his autograph will arguably be more valuable in the future. As painful as it sounds, he does not need the hall of fame. This guy has been playing for the money for the last few years (he may at one time loved the game, but not anymore). He loves himself. Lastly, in light of the recent Marion Jones sentencing, he stands a better chance of being jail-free by sticking to his story (as bad as the story is).

Without a conscience, he has no cause to repent. This is a sad statement of professional sports in the 21 century in the United Sates.

Also, you mentioned the 1994 strike. Some people still hate on baseball for that. Some of those people love Liberty and live in a state of crazy people.

I think Clemens does gain something if he comes clean. The story goes away in a few months. As soon as we have our next story, like a herd, the worlld will move on. Look at Andy Pettete.

Barry Bonds should have come clean. Clemens can avoid potential jail time, investigations, grand jury, and more false press reports.
