A Shootout win in Buffalo
Over 70,000 hockey fans were treated to an icy and snowy overtime shootout in Buffalo, where Sidney Crosby's dramatic goal lifted the Penguins past the Sabres 2-1 in an outside game at the home of the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, NY. The NHL decided to hold an outside game in a large venue as a template for future games. I think it worked and should lead to more in the future. Crosby said of the day: "Growing up, I played a lot outside," said Crosby, a Nova Scotia native. "When you see 70,000 people jammed into a stadium to watch hockey, it's a good sign. The atmosphere and environment, I don't think you can beat that." You can't. This is something the NHL should do two or three times a year. It got everyone engaged and brought out a ton of fans. In essence, it was a media event. There have been rumors of Rangers v Detroit in Yankee Stadium or even Rangers v Islanders. Posted by Steve in New York.
