The Yankees were “one yard” from signing Cliff Lee on Friday according to ESPN. It would have been ironic as Lee was scheduled to pitch against Phil Hughes on Friday night in Seattle. The deal that Editor in Chief and Perma Guest Outlaw Jack, Killer, Adam and I hoped would happen but fell through Friday afternoon. Texas unfortunately came through with a better deal.
The Tank’s Bottom Line: If the Yankees got Lee, I would literally bet the farm on the Yankees repeating as World Series Champions. The most important thing is that Lee didn’t go back to the Phillies or the Twins. But, the Yankees will have to wait for the off season to sign Lee as a free agent.
