Are floating baseball divisions the answer?

MLB's 14 person committee recommended came up with floating baseball divisions based upon payroll, competitiveness, and other considerations.  This isn't the answer.  The current arrangement works for players and owners alike.  Owners in smaller markets like the luxury tax money that the Yankees and occasionally Mets and Red Sox pay it.  Players enjoy no salary cap.

Floating divisions will add confusion and be a race to the bottom which players won't accept.

The Tank's Proposed Answers:

(1) Restore the balanced schedule.  Instead of the Yankees and Red Sox playing 18 or 19 times a season, have each team in each league face each other the same number of times.

(2) Tweak divisions geographically.  Make an East and West Division in each league and get rid of the Central Division.  Balance the number the teams best as possible.  It's hard because most teams are in the Eastern or Central time zones.

The Tank's Bottom Line: I think Option 1 is the more workable solution.  Smaller market teams get more Yankee and Red Sox gates.  They like it as there are Yankee and Red Sox fans everywhere and normally have the best players.
