The Jets signed free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson. He is better known as LT. The Giants had the original LT, Lawrence Taylor, back in the 1980s. Taylor was a Hall of Fame linebacker who terrorized opposing quarterbacks. Tomlinson is a future Hall of Fame running back whose best days are behind him.
The Jets got rid of Thomas Jones last week to save $5.8 million. But, they signed LT to a 2 year, $5.2 million contract. That's not much net savings.
Why did the Jets do it? The savings isn't a big deal. Did they think Thomas Jones is done? Yes, his production declined as the season went on but not as much LT's did. How is Leon Washington’s recovery going?
The Jets maybe jumping in the Brandon Marshall sweepstakes. He'll be an asset to whoever gets him. Speaking of the Broncos, they just traded for Browns QB Brady Quinn.
The Tank's Bottom Line: General Managers rarely share their real reasons with the public so we'll have to wait until the season gets closer or it’s declassified decades from now.
